Flo Toilet saves you on water and yoga
A team of ASU College of Design students, led by faculty members John Takamura and Dosun Shin, hopes to change the toilet archetype with their “Go With the Flo” design by the year 2030. The unusual trans-generational toilet design concept grabbed the “Breaking the Rules Silver Award” at the Northwest Design Invitational. The toilet concept met five “outstanding design” criteria - appropriate aesthetics, design innovation, ecological responsibility and market and user benefits. The ergonomic Flo toilet is a sustainable design concept for baby boomers, which functions like a squat toilet. The usage of the toilet, in a way, is very similar to yoga. It helps build and strengthen abdominal and back muscles. Flushing requires just one-half to one gallon of water. The Flo features an electromagnetic ball valve that flushes water from the tanks to the toilet. The Go With the Flo toilet is independent of electric power and doesn’t feature any mechanical parts.
They'll Never Find It!: Powdered Alcohol
I've known about powdered alcohol for a while now because I remember reading an article about powdered wine being available to campers (also great for water into wine tricks!). *HORF* Just kidding, I'd totally drink it. But now it's hitting the mainstream, and soon you'll see powdered alcohol mixes popping up everywhere (read: your teen's bookbag).
No word on price or availability just yet, but rest assured they'll be a ton of companies jumping on the 'sneaking alcohol into church/school' bandwagon. Which, honestly, I've been doing for years. Now I know what you're thinking, "But how, Mr. Geekologie Writer?" And the answer to that, my disciple, is in my stomach. In a tied-off balloon. Next to all the coke.
New York Street Advertising Takeover
Some interesting vigilante justice happened in NYC over the weekend - the "New York Street Advertising Takeover" project happened over the weekend, with 120 illegal billboards in and around NYC being white-washed and then painted over by about 80 different artists. Only billboards (apparently mostly all from one agency) that weren't registered with the city were targeted.
According to Cronicas Barbaras, who spoke to the organizer of NYSAT "NPA outdoor operates over 500 street level billboards in NYC ranging in size from about 4'x4' to 50'x12'. All of these advertising structures are illegal. I found this out by talking to the NYC Department of Buildings which has no permits for the NPA outdoor structures but has its hands full dealing with the rampant illegal billboard situation. I have also spoken directly with NPA outdoor employees who have told me that the NYPD will jail them from time to time at which point NPA lawyers bail them out and they are compensated 500 dollars for the nuisance of spending the night in jail."

The solar panels charge the built-in battery pack, allowing the user to use the speakers even after sunset. The Gramo is designed to be compatible with most DAPs, including the iPod and iPhone. If you want some digital entertainment when outdoors, the speakers can be bent flat and carried in a pocket.

Lenovo May Be Working on a Netbook
Businessmen are picky bastards, which is why Lenovo working on a ThinkPad-branded netbook is good news for everyone.
Their "Worldwide Competitive Analyst" says that they're exploring the area (of course), and that people should "watch this space", meaning that they're going to be making one. There's no other reason for him to say "watch this space" unless he was just being a dick, in which case you should watch THIS space, if you know what I mean.
The Ramp house / Archivirus
The ramp house is a project which tries to reconsider and redefine the living space. The client requested a “skatable habitat”. The result was a curved form interior, which set the whole house as well as the inhabitant’s life, into motion. In that space, which actually was a roof addition to an existing three- stored building, I tried first of all to achieve a balanced co-existence between the old and the new. The dominant material was the wood and so I used a wooden pergola and wooden horizontal louvers, which wrap up the whole new structure, ergo connecting the old with the new in a harmonious way. As a result the new volume obtained independence while still remaining an inseparable part of the whole.

as part of milan design week 09 the german designer ingo maurer unveiled 'the euro condom'

JUST WATCHED!!!! Bananaz-Documentary On Gorillaz
An interesting documentary has been released, shining some light onto the Gorillaz band.
“This incredible film, “Bananaz” removes the secretive, mucky walls of Gorillaz, the cartoon band created by artist Jamie Hewlett & musician Damon Albarn, smashing down all artificial barriers to reveal the full and filthy details behind this awe-inspiring band.”
You can watch the complete documentary online here.
Must Get!!! Portable NES!!!!
The oddly-proportioned portable NES called the FC Mobile is great because it plays actual NES cartridges. Now, with the addition of a light gun, TV-out, and external controllers, the FC Mobile II is even better.
The new version is sleeker and way better looking than the original, but the new features turn it into a legitimate new NES replacement for you classic gaming enthusiasts. It should retail for about $60 when it's released this May.
WisdomTree bookshelf, Cool Design
Designer: Jordi Milà.
Aimed straight at people who see books as a source of knowledge and emotions and not simply as decorative objects, the WisdomTree bookshelf by Spanish designer Jordi Milà resembles the growth of a plant. The bookshelf has branches and the books placed on them correspond to the fruit of knowledge, supported by pieces covered in leather. The WisdomTree bookshelf enjoys a fluid and organic shape, and offers enough space for your books and magazines. On the other hand, it makes for an eye-cathcing, artistic piece inside your reading room. Anyone who sees this bookshelf will certainly admire the ingenuity behind it.
Ummmm, Bacon Flavored Vodka..........
Ha, what line? Yes, Bakon is bacon flavored vodka. Yes, it's real. Yes, it's only available in Washington, Idaho, Montana and Oregon right now. Yes, I want to try it. Yes, I want to pour it on a stripper. No, I don't want to lick it off.
Couple Marries Dressed As Shrek & Fiona
In a story that nearly set my cockles ablaze, an English couple recently got married dressed as Shrek and Princess Fiona. Awwwwwww.
Hospice nurse Christine England, 40, married her fiance Keith, 44, in full costume and make-up in front of 100 guests who were also in fancy dress.
The new Mr and Mrs Green (yes, really), of Barnstaple, Devon, had spent three hours having their make-up done before walking down the aisle.
Christine said: 'The idea just came to me. I knew what we would go as because Keith looks just like Shrek.
Wow, way to kick a man in the balls, Christine. You might as well have gone as Andy Carmichael and asked him to go as Sloth. Goonies FTW! Do you, sir, take this woman to be your lawfully wedded wife? "HEY YOOOU GUUUUUYS!"

Redrock Hybrid Cinema Rig for DSLRs
The latest dSLRs shoot excellent HD video, as long as you don't mind the shakiness. Redrock, who released some of the first pro solutions to this problem, have just announced a product that's downright buyable.
Redrock's Hybrid Cinema Rig is both lighter than cheaper than the company's earlier offerings. Starting at $195, the stabilizing frame allows attachments like LCDs and mics, while offering an easier means to focus on the fly. Compatible with the Canon EOS 5D Mark II, Canon EOS Rebel T1i, Nikon D90, and Panasonic Lumix GH1, peripherals like this one are just the sort of dSLR accessories the industry needs for indie filmmakers to start take these still cameras seriously.
Stardust Light Furniture
Stardust is a set of sofas and pillows that illuminate from within. Add a rotating disco ball, lava lamps, and a couple of awesome Philips LivingColors lights, and your psychedelic apartment will be complete.
These new models are called Mappamondo (Globe), Bucco Bianco (White Hole), and Galassia (Galaxy). They are made of Via Lattea—italian for the raspberry-flavored Milky Way—a white fabric assembled around carbon-based black threads which they claim is indestructible.
Khyber Ridge / Studio NminusOne
The Khyber Ridge house was commissioned by a professional snowboarder. The strategy takes its cue from the intimate engagement of a shredder following the line of a mountain; it is one of maximum engagement with the site. The house is distributed along a steep slope, developing diverse tactical relations to the landscape, the surrounding views and the internal functions or program of the house.
buroJET
I love it when I stumble upon a great find totally organically...I was googling for more information for an upcoming post and came across buroJET's April '09 newsletter instead...I love the porcelain Pig Snout Cup, designed in collaboration with Jorine Oosterhoff. At first glance the cup looks pretty standard - it's only when you drink from it that you (or others) are aware of the full cup design.
The Out of the Blue cup and saucer (below) was designed for a ceramics competition for the Musee de Carouge in Switzerland. I love the way that the handle is created from the rim of the cup, and the colorful interior. Also very nice - the Bookend Bunny. Peekaboo!

turntable ring by plastique.
This turntable ring by plastique is painfully adorable -- talk about a head turner!
"Excuse me, but is that a miniature record player you're wearing?"
"Why yes. Yes it is."
Enough said.
My Earth Day Post
Elisabeth Beucher's 'Green Warrior Shower Curtains' help control your water consumption by slowly inflating its spikes (via a questionably energy efficient air pump) as you shower. Stay in too long and you get stabbed. Drop the soap and experience prison. While I do find this design admirable, I have an even better way to curtail water wastage: don't pay your gas or electric bill. You'll still have cold water, and cold water, my friends is the key to shorter showers. Seriously, I'm down to 35 seconds. Haven't seen my balls in weeks!
Happy Earth Day everyone!
Ladies having trouble picking up guys?
Let's face it, there are few things in the world men respond more to than boobs. And fast cars. And vaginas. And beer. And fireworks. And dinosaurs. And guns. And meat. And meat guns. And sports. And power tool guns. Oh, and video games. So if you're a lady looking to score some attention from the lesser sex, but aren't ready to go topless (I urge you to reconsider), you may want to mod yourself a Nintendo purse.
Citroën Karin
I’m a little disappointed with car design lately, I haven’t seen anything new that I found interesting. Why don’t we see anything like the Citroën Karin, a concept car designed by Trevor Fiore in 1980, anymore? Just keep it simple.
Im addicted to dope visual advertising!!!!
Brussel's agency TBWA took the concept of a 'splash of paint' quite literally when it created this striking print ad for paint manufacturer Levis. Drawing a parallel between interiors and fashion is nothing new but rarely does it work so well, particularly in a print context. Sexy and commanding. Not usually word you associate with paint.
Zava's new solar-powered street lighting
Solar-powered lighting is the most sustainable, carbon-neutral means to provide exterior illumination. It’s always good to know that the sources of light that illuminate your way at night are in total energy independence. Enter the PV.LED street furniture LED photovoltaic from the house of Zava, in collaboration with VP Solar. The PV.LED street furniture is not just about creating light at night. Instead, it’s also about creative design and pleasing aesthetics. The new collection includes Atollo, Girò and ‘813’. The Atollo turns on to generate a powerful and efficient beam of light, thanks to its 30 LEDs. Next comes the Girò, which takes its name from the opportunity to direct its photovoltaic module to ensure maximum energy efficiency. Its innovative design is highlighted by the slim silhouette. Finally, the ‘813’ is an external lighting unit that features 12 discrete LEDs that spreads light in the surrounding areas of commercial or residential buildings.

Manik x Kiks TYO Skateboard Decks, Cool Advertising!
Seattle based Manik got together with Kiks TYO from Tokyo to collaborate on a couple of skateboard decks. As usual the brand makes use of girls and sneakers, also for this project, and just like on t-shirts, the formula seems to work well on skateboard decks. We give you a preview of two of the collaborative decks, with possibly more on the way.
First timepiece to be worn on the fingernail
You can find the influence of technology almost everywhere these days. And timepieces are not an exception to this rule, which is something no one can deny. The concept of time was intensely debated and modified in the past, being taken to a level that we wouldn’t have expected.
You’ve had the chance to wear a timepiece wrapped around your wrist, as most people usually do, worn as a necklace, as a fashionable ring and so on. But you’ve all reached that point when time is at your fingertip. Or at your fingernail. And I’m not in the mood for making stupid jokes, so that you know.
The information showed on the display includes the time, the date and an AM/PM indicator that the user can see in a very clear format. During the nights, on the other hand, each design was created to light up in a different color. The only thing you need to do is to just press the fingernail watch.
Fishbone, the best USB hub for cartoon lovers
Just like the name suggests, the device is shaped precisely like a fishbone, being designed to look very stylish on anyone’s desk. The hub is provided with 4 USB ports, allowing the user to plug in his / her favorite gadgets into it. A great thing about it consists of the fact that it doesn’t restrain you as far as the size of the gadgets is concerned, leaving, will all four of them being used, enough free space.
Now, as for the features, they include: USB 2.0 high speed 4 port hub, hot-swappable Plug & Play connection and a blue LED indicator. Measuring 90 x 44.5 x 14 millimeters and weighing approximately 25 grams, the weird shaped hub is compatible with Windows Vista, XP, ME and 2000.
If you’re interested in the best USB hub (best looking, maybe), maybe you should try the Fishbone Hub, which is available for no more than $10 from USB Geek. If it doesn’t prove to be the best, it will at least drive you kitty crazy, keeping the little creature busy while working on your important projects.
