Eco Bath System makes the most of every drop

Designed by designer Jang WooSeok, the “Eco Bath System” is a new concept that combines the functions of a sink and toilet bowl. Drawing inspiration from the natural flow of water on earth, the Eco Bath System accumulates the water used to wash your hands which further can be reused to clean the toilet. The inspirational design by the South Korean designer not just helps in sustaining the environment, by motivating the users to conserve water in their day-to-day life, but it also presents an elegant yet glossy accessory for the bathroom; satisfying the consumers in terms of efficiency as well as design.

DOPE!!!!!! 8Bitone Chiptunes Synthesizer App

Everyone's heard the stories about those guys who play entire concerts on their Game Boys, or who recompose symphonies onto NES cartridges. 8Bitone is kinda like that, except on your iPhone, and without the social suicide aspect.

8Bitone is a combination nonlinear audio editor and chiptunes synthesizer, chiptunes being music synthesized in real time on old computer hardware, i.e. 8-bit game soundtracks. While 8Bittone isn't the first chiptunes synth to hit the App Store, it certainly looks like the best: writing, editing and listening to music is all carried out through a thoughtful, attractive interface, and the end result sounds as vintage-y as it should. Due in the App Store any day now, price TBA.

CRAZY CROSS MUSEUM!!!! Justice would love this shit!!!

Set upon a steep hillside in Atizapan on the outskirts of Mexico’s largest metropolis will soon sit the New Tamayo Museum. The building will serve as a nucleus of education and culture - locally, regionally, and internationally - and continue to carry the name of the Oaxacan born artist Rufino Tamayo (1899-1991). The very strong and symbolic shape of the cross is a direct interpretation of the client’s preliminary program studies, defining an optimized organizational scheme for the Tamayo’s visitors and administrators.

Most unusual and interesting tea kettle designs

Great tea starts with hot water and a tea kettle does the same for you. But haven’t you ever wanted to replace your run-of-the-mill tea kettle with one that’s really unique and innovative? In an attempt to hype up the mundane chore of making and serving tea, designers have come up with interesting designs that are truly a way up in tea kettles. Here we have some of the most unusual and interesting tea kettle designs that are beautifully designed to make great tea every time.

Robot Tiles

Hiroo Iwata developed these Robot Tiles. You have to imagine them as movable floor tiles which arrange them automatically in front of you as you walk. They’re covered with KURALON® EC, a textile made of conductive fibers. So when you step on it, it can detect in with direction you’re heading. It was part of the Tokyo Fiber ‘09 Senseware exhibition during the Milan furniture fair.
As always, a video will make it clear to you.

People’s Market Autumn/Winter 2009 Preview

Aside from duffle coats and Albam-style cagoules - more than a few high street stores are biting this winter - another popular coat style this Autumn will be the baseball jacket. People’s Market have a nice version in their up and coming AW09 collection, which we can preview today. The collection also features sherling lined jackets and cardigans in buffalo plaid as well as the PM staple, skinny jeans. Take a look after the jump to see more looks.

FUCKING AWESOME!!!! Transformer USB Drive!!!!

AM I THE BIGGEST FUCKING NERD FOR POSTING THIS SHIT?!?!?!!?!

What do you buy for the man who has nothing? While you ponder that nugget of vast intellectuality, I'll tell you about this 2GB Transformer memory stick (which is way better than these ones). Probably the awesomest USB drive I've seen in forever, the unit transforms from a normal looking USB ding-dongle into Ravage, a fierce jungle cat Decepticon (which some believe to be a dog, WHICH HE IS NOT YOU WILL NOT RUIN MY CHILDHOOD). Available fro pre-order from the BigBadToyStore, this piece of badassery will set you back $43 and ships in September. But the question remains: shouldn't you avoid trusting a Decepticon with your porno?*

Chen House by Marco Casagrande & Frank Chen

Land(e)scape by architect/artist duo Casagrande & Rintala in 1999 was one of my favorite installations. After the group dissolved, Marco Casagrande continued to explore the boundary between architecture and art.

I’m not an up to date person and didn’t know until now that Marco Casagrande has actually been building houses (my apology to the architect!) …

Chen House built in 2008 by Marco Casagrande, Frank Chen and the crew is almost as striking as Tadao Ando’s Azuma House. NO, this house may be better than Ando’s 1976 masterpiece - Ando’s early houses tried to recreate ‘tough’ living environment (coldness, dampness, and other inconveniences), but Chen House simply embraces its environment, including typhoons, earthquakes, flooding and heat.

Chen House reminds me of the very basic of Judo and Aikido, “yield to win.”

Vogue China- Liu Wen

For Vogue China Liu Wen takes on printed, ornamented and truly daring fashions with help from Josh Olins. The fanciful headwraps remind us of Liu’s turn in Pop but the moody, high contrast feel of this edit bears a charm all its own.

Writing on your toast

Sasha Tseng designed the concept for a message toaster that incorporates a little board where one can read quick notes. The memo also gets burnt into the toast, creating a fun toast-it note.

Light As Performance Art

Astonishing LED, Laser, and Light Photography from Hack N Mod on Vimeo.

Light performance photography is impressive enough, but shoving these light performance photographs into a video and putting a Depeche Mode-like music track on it? We're sold.

DJ Hero

If you’ve already mastered Guitar Hero and are looking for the next technological musical challenge, look no further, because DJ Hero has (almost) arrived. Apparently DJ AM has collaborated on it, but no word on other DJs who have been involved. Genres to be mixed include hip-hop, R&B, Motown, electronica and dance. The controllers allow you to create your own original mixes, and plenty of cross-genre mash-ups.

There’s no official release date, but we can expect it sometime in the fall. And no pricing just yet, but I’d recommend that you start saving…
The actual set list will be posted closer to the release of DJ Hero, but what kind of songs do you think we can expect?

Awesome Video/Song, Phoenix - 1901

With the approach of the exit of the new album on May 25 “Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix”, here the new clip of the Phoenix group after the excellent Lisztomania title. A play of lights and symbols, on the live service of the French group most popular in the world after Daft Punk and Air.

Crazy ass sink!

Isn’t the Moody Aquarium Sink looks cool? :-)

Designer: Italbrass (Italy). Available for $4700

Not a big Diesel fan but..........

Diesel Black Label “No Face” Watch

An interesting new watch is coming Italy’s Diesel - the “No Face” watch. The watch comes in a steel frame with black leather straps and features tiny side mounted watches. The black top plate looks really sleek and the fact that there is no time on it, certainly confuses. The design seems a little confusing and we are not sure it is very practical either, but from design stand-point very interesting.

Eric Rolph, DOPE HAWAII SHOTS!!!!!!

World’s largest solar-powered stadium to host 'The World Games 2009'

Riding on their their dreams, designers at Japan-based Toyo Ito Architects are using solar energy beyond all conventions to power the main stadium built for “The World Games” to be held in July this year, for no one has ever attempted to power an entire stadium with solar energy before. The $150 million stadium can house 55,000 spectators and can power 80% of the surrounding neighborhood if it‘s solar array is connected to the grid during days when the stadium is not being used. Every inch of the stadium’s incredible 14,155-sq-m roof area is covered with 8,844 solar panels that could potentially generate a whopping 1.14GWh of electricity annually. The record braking stadium is touted to be the world’s largest solar-powered stadium and is designed to green the not-so-popular World Games to be held in Taiwan this year.

Acne 2009 Fall/Winter Pop Classics Collection

Debuting this year, Scandinavian denim brand Acne offers a preview into their 09-10 fall/winter collection. A noticeable absence is the lack of denim showcased in their upcoming collection. Some nice poppy colors are incorporated into the style side of things with cable-knit sweaters and some solid footwear.

Neon Waterfall

Neon Waterfall” by Lauris Paulus.

Arch Daily Neal Creek Residence / Paul McKean Architecture

The Neal Creek residence treads lightly upon its surroundings, maximizing valley and water views with minimal impact to the natural environment. The owners - windsurfing and snowboarding enthusiasts - were interested in a modest weekend retreat that would be highly efficient and ecologically minded. Their wooded two-acre parcel of land presented many unique challenges including wetlands, creek protection setbacks, and floodplain restrictions.
