Art Student Paints Car To Be Invisible

University of Lancashire art student Sara Watson painted an old Skoda Fabia to appear invisible when looked at from just the right angle. This happens to be the right angle. If you were standing next to it it would just look like a spraypainted piece of shit.

Guy Make Fully Functional Wolverine Claws

Not to be outdone by the Tomahawk Skull Gauntlet, some guy went and made his own fully functional Wolverine claws out of a bunch of copper tubing and sharp metal. They're surprisingly impressive and make pretty short work out of a cardboard box. Which, I think we can all agree, is humanity's real enemy. *SNIKT* Die, tree-zombie!

Trent Reznor Vs. Apple

Future-thinking, technology-embracing Nine Inch Nails leader Trent Reznor--who left Interscope Records in 2007 and now independently releases music using technologies like BitTorrent--recently further delved into the digital age by creating a new, GPS-enabled iPhone app that allows fans to interact with each other at concerts in real time. It's a pretty cool tool for NIN diehards, sort of like a NIN-specialized Twitter.

But the new update of the NIN app seems to have downward-spiraled, so to speak, as it has been rejected by Apple due to "obscene, pornographic, offensive, or defamatory content."

Trent just posted this bummer news on Twitter, saying: "Apple rejects the NIN iPhone update because it contains objectionable content. The objectionable content referenced is [the NIN album] The Downward Spiral."

Trent also discussed the controversy on the Nine Inch Nails website, likening the situation to one NIN dealt with previously:

"I'll voice the same issue I had with Wal-Mart years ago, which is a matter of consistency and hypocrisy. Wal-Mart went on a rampage years ago insisting all music they carry be censored of all profanity and 'clean' versions be made for them to carry. Bands (including Nirvana) tripped over themselves editing out words, changing album art, etc to meet Wal-Mart's standards of decency--because Wal-Mart sells a lot of records. NIN refused, and you'll notice a pretty empty NIN section at any Wal-Mart. My reasoning was this: I can understand if you want the moral posturing of not having any "indecent" material for sale--but you could literally turn around 180 degrees from where the NIN record would be and purchase the film 'Scarface' completely uncensored, or buy a copy of Grand Theft Auto where you can be rewarded for beating up prostitutes. How does that make sense?"

Seems like the iPhone has become a pretty hate machine for Trent.

Viva Vinyl Vendors!

Vinyl has real staying power, that’s obvious. I was still stoked, though, to see an innovative take on vinyl accessories pop up in Mexico, on the sidewalk in a street fair. Besides the basic (yet cool and functional) vinyl bags, this Mexican market still features non-typical crafts - like a fake stuff lama, monster toys and furry sneakers. Not just your regular farmer’s market!

Crash Modern Bookshelf / Room Divider from Rainer Mutsch

Here is another cool furniture find from designer Rainer Mutsch of Austria. His modern bookshelf or room divider called "Crash" has a very informal look as if the parts crashed together to create a myriad of different shaped storage spaces. This visually striking storage shelf may also be floated off the wall as a room divider and assembles with a series of interlocking panels without any hard ward.

NOWHERE “Sixteen Chicks” T-shirt

Having original plied his trade with Jun Takahashi and their NOWHERE retail venture in Harajuku, Nigo’s recent stepping down from A Bathing Ape as president has freed up some time for other projects including a re-visitiation of NOWHERE. NOWHERE itself was the subject of a special pop-up store at DOVER STREET MARKET while another store is also rumoured to re-open in Japan, which will return to the store’s roots of small, limited runs and apparently opening only on select days. NIGO (R) is seen here taking part in the hand-screening of a commemorative 16th anniversary t-shirt titled “sixteen chicks” which will release on May 5th at BAPEXCLUSIVE stores.

OK last iPhone app of the day, its crazzzzyyyyy

Spinning vinyl ipod app from Theodore Watson on Vimeo.

This iPod app is insane - it’s the kind of program you’d show off at work, in a bar and to your grandma. And everyone would think it is too cool for words. You put on a song and play with it by literally playing with your iPod touch or phone. This app uses the accelerometer of the iPod to control the speed of a vinyl record on the screen. Slowing down the record and speeding it up depends on how fast you spin it on a surface.

iPhone app for nose candy fiends

iSnort is a bootleg iPhone app that makes it appear as though you're cutting up coke and snorting it. Unfortunately, it's not even a real app. It's just a video that you have to choreograph your movements to (the iPhone's touchscreen doesn't respond to heavily abused credit cards or rolled up bills). That said, you can pick it up for £5 at their website. Or, put that money towards some real nose candy. Yeah, I'm talking that good shit. Model airplane glue.

Flo Toilet saves you on water and yoga

A team of ASU College of Design students, led by faculty members John Takamura and Dosun Shin, hopes to change the toilet archetype with their “Go With the Flo” design by the year 2030. The unusual trans-generational toilet design concept grabbed the “Breaking the Rules Silver Award” at the Northwest Design Invitational. The toilet concept met five “outstanding design” criteria - appropriate aesthetics, design innovation, ecological responsibility and market and user benefits. The ergonomic Flo toilet is a sustainable design concept for baby boomers, which functions like a squat toilet. The usage of the toilet, in a way, is very similar to yoga. It helps build and strengthen abdominal and back muscles. Flushing requires just one-half to one gallon of water. The Flo features an electromagnetic ball valve that flushes water from the tanks to the toilet. The Go With the Flo toilet is independent of electric power and doesn’t feature any mechanical parts.

They'll Never Find It!: Powdered Alcohol

I've known about powdered alcohol for a while now because I remember reading an article about powdered wine being available to campers (also great for water into wine tricks!). *HORF* Just kidding, I'd totally drink it. But now it's hitting the mainstream, and soon you'll see powdered alcohol mixes popping up everywhere (read: your teen's bookbag).

No word on price or availability just yet, but rest assured they'll be a ton of companies jumping on the 'sneaking alcohol into church/school' bandwagon. Which, honestly, I've been doing for years. Now I know what you're thinking, "But how, Mr. Geekologie Writer?" And the answer to that, my disciple, is in my stomach. In a tied-off balloon. Next to all the coke.

New York Street Advertising Takeover

Some interesting vigilante justice happened in NYC over the weekend - the "New York Street Advertising Takeover" project happened over the weekend, with 120 illegal billboards in and around NYC being white-washed and then painted over by about 80 different artists. Only billboards (apparently mostly all from one agency) that weren't registered with the city were targeted.

According to Cronicas Barbaras, who spoke to the organizer of NYSAT "NPA outdoor operates over 500 street level billboards in NYC ranging in size from about 4'x4' to 50'x12'. All of these advertising structures are illegal. I found this out by talking to the NYC Department of Buildings which has no permits for the NPA outdoor structures but has its hands full dealing with the rampant illegal billboard situation. I have also spoken directly with NPA outdoor employees who have told me that the NYPD will jail them from time to time at which point NPA lawyers bail them out and they are compensated 500 dollars for the nuisance of spending the night in jail."

Gramo: solar-powered speaker

Designed by Pekka Salokannel, the Gramo Speakers are just what you need to green your musical life. The speakers are powered by three layers of photovoltaic panels that are incorporated onto their surface. The solar panels charge the built-in battery pack, allowing the user to use the speakers even after sunset. The Gramo is designed to be compatible with most DAPs, including the iPod and iPhone. If you want some digital entertainment when outdoors, the speakers can be bent flat and carried in a pocket.

Mobile Office SUV

Here we have the Mobile Office SUV, a concept that was designed by LimousinesWorld and that is targeted at the very rich people (extremely rich I might add) who never worry about their bank accounts and who are eager to buy themselves the most luxurious products in the whole world, because, as you all know, this is undoubtedly an aspect that lets everyone know how rich you are.
If you want, you can customize your Cadillac Escalade, Ford Escalade, Infiniti QX56, Lincoln Navigator and Mercedes GL and what is going to be your car afterwards will have desks, the captain’s chairs, a very good PC connections, a hands free Intercom System, an AM/FM/XM stereo system, an ice chest, glass holder, a 7 inch flat screen TV. This is pretty much what you need in order to feel as comfortable as possible.

Lenovo May Be Working on a Netbook

Businessmen are picky bastards, which is why Lenovo working on a ThinkPad-branded netbook is good news for everyone.

Their "Worldwide Competitive Analyst" says that they're exploring the area (of course), and that people should "watch this space", meaning that they're going to be making one. There's no other reason for him to say "watch this space" unless he was just being a dick, in which case you should watch THIS space, if you know what I mean.

The Ramp house / Archivirus

The ramp house is a project which tries to reconsider and redefine the living space. The client requested a “skatable habitat”. The result was a curved form interior, which set the whole house as well as the inhabitant’s life, into motion. In that space, which actually was a roof addition to an existing three- stored building, I tried first of all to achieve a balanced co-existence between the old and the new. The dominant material was the wood and so I used a wooden pergola and wooden horizontal louvers, which wrap up the whole new structure, ergo connecting the old with the new in a harmonious way. As a result the new volume obtained independence while still remaining an inseparable part of the whole.

how to protect yourself from stupid rules: the euro condom
as part of milan design week 09 the german designer ingo maurer unveiled 'the euro condom'
created in response to new EU guidelines that will see frosted light bulbs banned. the product
consists of a thin, heat-resistant silicone cover that turns a clear bulb into a frosted one.
as from september 2009 frosted bulbs will be banned in accordance with new EU guidelines on
light sources because they are said give off less light than clear bulbs. however, according to the
specifications of various manufacturers the difference, measured in lumens, is negligible or not existent.

JUST WATCHED!!!! Bananaz-Documentary On Gorillaz

An interesting documentary has been released, shining some light onto the Gorillaz band.

“This incredible film, “Bananaz” removes the secretive, mucky walls of Gorillaz, the cartoon band created by artist Jamie Hewlett & musician Damon Albarn, smashing down all artificial barriers to reveal the full and filthy details behind this awe-inspiring band.”

You can watch the complete documentary online here.

Must Get!!! Portable NES!!!!

The oddly-proportioned portable NES called the FC Mobile is great because it plays actual NES cartridges. Now, with the addition of a light gun, TV-out, and external controllers, the FC Mobile II is even better.

The new version is sleeker and way better looking than the original, but the new features turn it into a legitimate new NES replacement for you classic gaming enthusiasts. It should retail for about $60 when it's released this May.

WisdomTree bookshelf, Cool Design

Designer: Jordi Milà.

Aimed straight at people who see books as a source of knowledge and emotions and not simply as decorative objects, the WisdomTree bookshelf by Spanish designer Jordi Milà resembles the growth of a plant. The bookshelf has branches and the books placed on them correspond to the fruit of knowledge, supported by pieces covered in leather. The WisdomTree bookshelf enjoys a fluid and organic shape, and offers enough space for your books and magazines. On the other hand, it makes for an eye-cathcing, artistic piece inside your reading room. Anyone who sees this bookshelf will certainly admire the ingenuity behind it.
