Vogue Nippon July 2009 : White Wings

I love this editorial from Vogue Nippon’s July issue featuring Raquel Zimmermann as a Mod Goddess. The styling is absolute throw back to the way my mother was dressing from ‘78 till about ‘82, from the black and white architectural dresses to the earpieces that few people could pull off. Its nice to see that item making its way back into an editorial, I’m pretty certain after the success of this editorial there will be a lot of sourcing for earpieces for shoots, its a good thing I have a small section in my jewelry box with the original one’s from my moms hay day. I am very curious about the designer behind the one featured here because they are definitely different then my collection or any I have seen before but would not be shocked at all if it was indeed a vintage piece. I will do some research and find out. For now just enjoy these luscious images.

The site we were presented with by the client is typical of Tokyo’s older residential areas - defined by narrow streets whose character emerges more from the individual choices of the homeowners than from any comprehensive urban plan. More specific, the elongated and narrow plot (5.4m x 16m) is surrounded on all sides by houses built to the razor’s edge of their property lines and to the maximum height the local zoning laws allow. The result; a site flanked by tall blank walls on its two long sides, and facing directly onto a neighbour’s home to the South, with only a sliver of open sky available on the south-east corner.

Chris McVeighs work is pretty dope

Chris McVeigh is an author, illustrator and photographer that lives in Halifax, NS. He started with photography in 2007 when a friend insisted that he should purchase a digital SRL. Chris is a natural talent! He now excels at creating clever, quirky and often comical pictures that employ everything from action figures to backyard wildlife. (In fact, a combination of the two garnered the attention of Lucasfilm, who featured his picture on the front page of starwars.com!)

Arch Daily Hind House / John Pardey Architects

The clients had moved into a rather ordinary brick and tile 1970’s house on the banks of the river Loddon in early 2005 and wished to rebuild using a system-built house from the continent, but had become disillusioned with the cost and inflexibility that this offered and so approached us as they had been impressed by a house some 400 meters along the river that we had completed the previous year (The ‘Attwood house’ which went on to win the Grand Designs Best Remodeled House in Britain Award in 2007). Initially, we offered to come up with a sketch design for a small cost on the basis of no-win, no job! Happily, they loved the concept and after a few months of developing their ambitions, we arrived at the final design.

New London Rubbish Bin By Paul Smith

Design Museum has joined forces with Beefeater 24 to celebrate the fearlessly progressive spirit of London’s greatest creative minds, past and present. At the heart of the exhibition are fifteen commissions from some of London’s most dynamic creatives, as a group they demonstrate the diverse approaches to design in London. Among the participants in the exhibition are Zaha Hadid, Tom Dixon, Paul Smith and others.

Paul Smith created a rabbit rubbish bin for the city of London. The ‘New London Rubbish Bin’ will be popping up in Covent Garden and Holland Park for a four-month trial period from 28th May. The giant rabbit bins, with ears that light up when anyone puts rubbish in them, are Paul Smith’s contribution to Super Contemporary – an exhibition which opens on 3rd June 2009 at the Design Museum.
