Nokias Speak & Spell

PUSH N900 is a competion organised by Nokia to promote its new N900 smartphone. Everyone is invited to come up with projects how you could hack or mod the N900 and its open-source Maemo operating system. You have to submit your idea by October 11th, a jury will then decide who will get a N900, funding and support to make them real. Hyper and Tinker it! were asked to develop some sample projects. Rethinking classic 80s products using the new Nokia N900. I love this project, Talk & Text.
A Nokia N900 and an Arduino are hidden inside this Speak & Spell. When you press a key, the Arduino detects which key you have pressed and sends that information over Bluetooth to the N900. So you can write and send a text message using a Speak & Spell.

Kinda big and clunky, but cool enough

The 2010 Brabus Mercedes-Benz Viano Lounge powered by 426hp 6.1L V8 engine, and features a 32-inch LCD, two Sony VAIO laptops, a PlayStation 3, Nespresso machine, and even a Vertu Constellation phone.

Play-Doh Advertisments

South East Asia brings us one of the most humorous of ad campaigns for a children’s play product: Play-Doh – Safe no matter what you make. One would definitely assume these ads are not targeted at the children themselves but, rather, at the younger generation of parents that would view these pictures and not create an unnecessary angry protest about it.

Oh, Brother! Commercial for SEAT Altea XL

This commercial is fabulous! The creature that reminds me of the soon to be released film, “Where the Wild Things Are”, is so unbelievable lovable. He grows with love and the family can not stop loving him, so he grows out of their car and they have to buy the SEAT Altea Xl to fit their enormous love monster. The score is brilliant, it ads to the drama and makes it the story even funnier. I absolutely fell in love with this commercial.

Tetris on Skateboards

This is a video of 36 skateboarders playing a game of human Tetris on some hill in San Francisco while wearing giant neon shapes on their heads. Except it's not actually Tetris because not all of them are rocking tetrominoes. No, some of those mothers got damn pentominos on their heads. And I'm not talking the little red bits in olives! But, damnit, now I want olives. Shit, and some artichoke hearts. Fun fact: Jesus once turned an olive branch into a magic wand and banished hate from an evil sorcerer's heart. Then he did the water into wine thing and everybody had a good time. Plus, there was live music. You can't beat that.

WTF: Farmer Grows Buddah Shaped Pears

In this week's "growing things that look like other things" news, a Chinese farmer has learned how to grow Buddah shaped pears. But are they sacrilegious to eat?

Hao Xianzhang, a local famer, spent six years to perfect the process by growing the pears inside moulds, local media reported. The pears cost around 50 yuan (7.32 USD) each.

Pfft, that's nothing. One time I grew an apple that looked like I cut a hole in it and smoked weed out of it. BECAUSE I DID. Who has the green thumb now, bitches?!

HOLDIN SHIT DOWN FOR THE HIPSTAAAZZZZZZZZ!!!!!!!!!

Trojan House by Jackson Clements Burrows

From the street, this Edwardian house might seem unassuming, undeserving of a second glance. From the back, however, the addition to the Trojan House by Jackson Clements Burrows, where three children’s bedrooms are cantilevered above a large living space, is anything but ordinary.
The entire addition is wrapped in a seamless timber skin that conceals any obvious openings. Windows, covered by shutters that follow the pattern of the façade, reveal nothing of the interior space.
Incidentally the inside is just as remarkable as the outside. A thermal chimney and a breezeway corridor allow for passive cooling in the warmer months as each room was designed to allow for cross ventilation. Additionally a rain screen provides extra shade from the hot summer sun, and also insulates the inside in the winter by forming a space for warm air.

word?

for those who steal wifi

"Todays technology advances at such a speed that often consumers are left in awe of it all. The high tech terminology, the ultra small, ultra portable, metallic or white devides we carry around with us are, to the vast amount of consumers, simply baffling. The Wifi Dowsing Rod aims to work against this. By basing the design for a wireless internet detector on century's old technology, the user feels immediately at home with the product, whilst feeling less intimidated by the simple shape and natural materials. 55 Blair Road by Ong&Ong

Ong&Ong created a light open living space for the house promoting the inside/outside.

The restored traditional art deco style facade of the property envelops the new living space. The entire second floor in the main section of the house had been allocated for a master bedroom/study with a suite bathroom
. To maintain the height of the second floor a mezzanine space was created to accommodate an additional guest bedroom. A main spiral staircase ascends to the attic, creating a circulation and spatial break in the bedroom areas.

A large courtyard divides the two sections of the house allowing for maximum light to penetrate the living spaces. Aluminum wall cladding wraps around the void. The first floor employs flexible glazed walls that lead directly to the pool. When both sides of the glazed partitions are open the first floor becomes one large ideal place to relax.

8-bit flames on prius

Initially, the idea of adding flames to your Toyota Prius seemed foolhardy to us. And then we saw this fine example of 8-bit flames on the side of a 2010 Toyota Prius. Fitting.
