Nice

The Vers 2X is simplicity at its best – compact and sleek with a hand-crafted wood body and no junk in the trunk (check out its bare bones back). This iPod dock is designed to fit in a small space, while making enough sound to fill up a big room. Its busy remote control lets you manipulate the heck out of your music without moving an inch. For wood connoiseurs, it comes in Cherry, Natural Walnut, Dark Walnut and Bamboo. The Natural Walnut has a beautiful retro feel to it.
I was surprised to find out that each speaker system is built by hand over the course of a week, ensuring that every model is unique. In a world where iPod docks are built in the same way IKEA furniture is, a one-of-a-kind speaker at less than $200 (with a dollar going to planting a new tree) is made to last.

THE HONDA EV-N

The Tokyo Motor Show is coming up in the next few weeks and here is a complete preview of the new and very adorable Honda EV-N. It’s a retro-styled battery-powered car with a face of a pug puppy crossed with a Trabant and nifty concept-y features like swappable seat fabrics, a solar roof, and a “communications system” embedded in the black front fascia.
Kirsten Dunst x McG x Takashi Murakami “Akihabara Majokko Princess” Preview

Aside from the “Pop Life” Exhibition underway at Tate Modern in London, Takashi Murakami has a more extensive video project up his sleeve, made in collaboration with actress Kirsten Dunst and hot shot film director, McG, who most recently directed Terminator Salvation. The video features Dunst, dressed entirely in princess form, singing a cover of the Vapors’ “Turning Japanese” within the streets of Akihabara in Tokyo. Offered is a behind-the-scenes look, while the full video can be expected sometime in the coming weeks.

China? equality? FTL?

Once again China is showing the way forward in its approach to human rights, and we in the West could all learn a thing or two. Take, for example, people of restricted height, who often complain of discrimination. China’s dwarfs have the chance to live in their own special commune in the town of Kunming, in the south of the country. There, everybody is under 4ft 3in tall; they live in toadstool homes, where they dress like Oompa-loompas and put on musical extravaganzas when people come to visit. That’s liberation for you. Next week we’ll examine what similar kindly measures have been introduced for China’s Tibetan and Muslim minorities. Happy anniversary, People’s Republic.
1878

In 1878 lady liberty was not exactly all together. The massive head was on display at the Paris International Exhibition. Attendees to the exhibition could pay to walk around in her head. You have to admit its kind of freaky, very Planet of the Apish.

Wow, this full sized replica of the Batmobile looks amazing! It was bulit by someone from Sweden, made from a 1973 Lincoln Continental, took over $1 million US dollars and 3.5 years, 20,000 working hours to complete.
Cost: over $1 million.
The Punch Camera

The Punch Camera by designer Matty Martin. Cool!
The PUNCH takes regular digital images but allows its users to physically punch a rasterized image of their photo. The punched image gives information which can connect its users to the digital gallery.
"This is a camera which was inspired by the loss of tangible memories. It is meant to connect both physical and digital while minimizing excess materials and the hardships in sharing images."

Maserati Boomerang

This is the Maserati Boomerang, a concept car from 1971. I don’t believe that current concept cars will look that fresh in 40 years. The Boomerang is a beast, just look at the wheels.
Not Dangerous Enough: Jet Powered Carousel
Whenever I think "jet-powered" I think of rocketpacks and blasting off to the moon with a bubble helmet on and then playing hide-and-seek amongst the craters. Secondly, I think of danger and how much fun it is almost dying but then escaping death at the last second and flipping the grim reaper the bird right when he's reaching for you with his scythe. Yeah, I do that all the time. But one thing I don't do all the time (or ever for that matter) is ride a rocket-powered merry-go-round. It just looks too tame. Admittedly, the carousel's shoddy construction did look promising in the beginning, but in the end it's just two guys who might have well taped bottle rockets to their backs. I WANTED TO SEE ONE OF THOSE BITCHES LAUNCHED INTO ORBIT! Or at least a tree. Hurt video needs more hurt.
Skip to 1:30 for the action. And I did like the flames.

Brooklyn Bowl

If you ever doubted that a regular old bowling alley could give you an experience, you haven't seen the new guy in town, Brooklyn Bowl. Not only does it have that great vintage vibe going on, it has a lot of the great modern day amenities that will make you stay way beyond your 10 frames. Whether you're shaking your booty to the music blaring out of their a custom-designed JBL Vertec sound system or enjoying a concert film on one of their nine high-def screens, Brooklyn Bowl wants to show you what entertainment really means.
Kid's Repubilc in Beijing: The Coolest Kids Bookstore

File this under, where was this when I was a kid? Kid's Repubilc in Beijing is a bright and colorful bookstore that was carefully constructed to create a beautiful experience. Twelve colored ribbons, 100-meters long, flow through the store, whirling and twirling and guiding children to pockets of beautiful space.
Banksy - IKEA Graffiti Punk

Apparently, everything you get from IKEA is cheap - even the graffiti art. In Banksy’s latest piece in Croydon, we see a punk kid looking at directions while attempting to assemble a “large graffiti slogan” he got from the Swedish retail store.
